China's air ticket prices rallied 14-17% YoY from May to Jun 2026, before ebbing back to roughly flat to a 3% hike in Jul to Aug, Goldman Sachs said in a research report. Domestic airline passenger traffic also rebounded in Jul to Aug, reflecting that aviation demand remains price elastic.

The broker foresaw travel demand volatility to intensify during this summer holiday period due to fluctuations in air ticket prices and unfavorable weather conditions in certain regions. It believed demand during the National Day Golden Week holiday may generate a longer-tail effect similar to recent holidays.

The broker was upbeat on Macau gaming stocks, including Galaxy, Sands and Wynn, as market expectations are broadly low, while margins may reach an inflection point in 4Q26. In addition, GGR and daily opex bases in Nov to Dec are relatively low.

Meanwhile, the broker was also positive on TRIP.COM-S (09961.HK). Its 3Q26 guidance showed that the impact from the platform's adoption of a new tiered hotel commission system after the conclusion of the antitrust investigation in Jul was only mild. Current valuation is at a low level, and investors are advised to accumulate on dip. The broker assigned a Buy rating with a TP of HKD536, citing inbound tourism and international business expansion as drivers for sustained growth.

For hotels, Goldman Sachs preferred HWORLD-S (01179.HK) and Atour Lifestyle Holdings Limited (ATAT.US), both rated Buy. It believed the two companies have higher visibility on network expansion and profitability improvement, with TP at HKD51 and USD52 respectively. The broker maintained a Neutral rating on CTG DUTY-FREE (01880.HK) with a TP of HKD62, focusing on sales performance of Hainan duty-free stores during the peak season from Oct 2026 to Mar 2027. It rated SAMSONITE (01910.HK) Buy, expecting revenue to reach an inflection point from the end of 2026 to early 2027, with a TP of HKD18.4.

Regarding airlines, Goldman Sachs assigned Buy ratings to all three major Chinese airlines. TP for CHINA EAST AIR (00670.HK), AIR CHINA (00753.HK) and CHINA SOUTH AIR (01055.HK) were HKD4.4, HKD6.4 and HKD4.6 respectively. The broker expected performance to continue being dragged by surging oil prices, while favoring SPRING AIRLINES (601021.SH) for its lowest sensitivity to oil prices among peers.

Chinese memory chipmaker CXMT (688825.SH) is preparing to dabble into the flash memory chip market currently dominated by Samsung Electronics and other foreign peers, Reuters, citing three sources familiar with the matter, reported. The move would expand its customer base amid a global memory shortage.

CXMT plans to establish an R&D production line for NAND flash memory at its new Beijing plant, two sources said. One source said the company has also set up a research institute in Beijing, with projects including NAND development.

A third source said CXMT discussed its NAND plans with customers, including a newly established startup that intends to purchase CXMT's NAND chips for storage products used in AI systems and supercomputers.

It remains unclear when the R&D production line will begin operations, or whether CXMT plans to move from the R&D and pilot production stage to large-scale commercial manufacturing. According to research firm TrendForce, Samsung (005930.KS) was the world's largest NAND supplier by revenue in 2Q26 with a market share of 29.3%. SK Hynix (000660.KS) ranked second, followed by Micron Technology, Inc. (MU.US) from the US.

This also means that CXMT, which mainly focuses on DRAM, will wrestle with Chinese peer YMTC in one of the fastest-growing segments of the semiconductor industry.

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said he has no intention of seeking another presidential term, and even if constitutional amendments are completed, he would still be unable to serve another term under the relevant provisions of the Constitution, Yonhap News Agency reported.

Regarding troop deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, he stressed that South Korea would not deploy troops to participate in or intervene in war. However, like other countries, South Korea needs to carry out necessary activities to ensure the safety of South Korean merchant shipping, safeguard crude oil transportation routes, and protect the lives of its citizens.

Regarding investment in the US, he revealed that relevant authorities had reported that both sides were close to reaching an agreement, but he noticed some parts of the relevant content that were difficult to accept. Therefore, the South Korean government is conducting further consultations with the US. Both sides are negotiating toward a direction that aligns with the interests of both countries.

During Citi's recent marketing visits to the UK and Europe, most investors retained key holdings in TENCENT (00700.HK) and BABA-W (09988.HK). Some investors also held TRIP.COM-S (09961.HK), NTES (09999.HK), JD-SW (09618.HK) and Vipshop (VIPS.US). There was also discussion interest in SE Asia ride-hailing and food delivery giant Grab (GRAB.US) and Singapore-based Sea Limited (SE.US).

European investor sentiment was mixed. Most agreed that the macro environment remained the biggest headwind, but valuations were appealing, with some specifically noting that TENCENT should trade at a higher valuation.

Discussions also focused on China-US AI models, capex, computing power constraints, regulation, and the impact of US frontier laboratories slowing model advancement, the broker noted. Compared with US investors, many investors focused more on emerging markets and showed better sentiment and stronger interest in China's large-cap internet stocks. Other companies discussed included BIDU-W (09888.HK), MEITUAN-W (03690.HK), PDD Holdings Inc. (PDD.US), TME-SW (01698.HK), KUAISHOU-W (01024.HK) and BOSS ZHIPIN-W (02076.HK).

Investor positioning in TENCENT was slightly higher than in BABA-W, with both remaining core China internet holdings for most funds. Regarding TENCENT, some investors believed the valuation was highly attractive and were optimistic about longer-term agentic AI opportunities, though concerns remained over the investment cycle, whether core businesses had reached growth limits, and whether gaming and advertising revenue growth could be sustained. Some clients also believed TENCENT should increase capex more aggressively.

Regarding BABA-W, most investors agreed it was a stronger full-stack AI player and were comfortable with trends in cloud revenue growth and margins. Discussions also covered the Qwen model, potential MaaS revenue opportunities, and the rationale and timing behind the recent equity financing instead of debt or convertible bond financing.

Z.AI (02513.HK)'s GLM team disclosed the first public production-environment Recursive Self-Improvement (RSI) engineering practice among China's large language models. The Infra Agent powered by GLM-5.3 completed the design, debugging and optimization of the GLM-5.3-Flash inference infrastructure, enabling the model to improve its own operating system in reverse.

This marks the first publicly disclosed RSI case by a Chinese large-model developer operating in a production environment.

GLM-5.3-Flash was deployed on a cluster consisting of more than 100,000 domestic AI accelerators, representing a large-scale deployment previously lacking mature operational references.
